In the spirit of keeping a good thing going, the Department of Lab Medicine decided to honor and extend their appreciation to their neighbour across the hall. On Monday, May 2 a gift and goodie basket was delivered to the surprise and delight of the radiology department.
The gesture, a part of the growing “Us Care” initiative at VJH, aims to promote collectively working together to nurture a hospital culture of caring, enabling staff to foster joy at work which ultimately translates into better patient care. Lab first saw its members sneak into the Emergency Room’s staff lunchroom in March to fill their freezer with ice cream treats after pasting the room’s interior with colored notes of gratitude. This month they wanted to acknowledge their sister department across the hallway and let them know they were wonderful to work with.
The Us Care initiative is the inspiration of Dr. Yann Brierley, pathologist and medical lab director for the North Okanagan (photo far left).
