VERNON, BC— On October 15, 2021 from 6 to 9 a.m., the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Physician Society (VJHPS) will be handing out fresh, warm breakfast burritos to hospital staff as they head into work.
The burritos are being served with a heaping side of gratitude from physicians who appreciate the tremendous pressure all hospital employees have been operating under for the past 18 months. The stress associated with staying safe and keeping others safe during a global pandemic has taken its toll on everyone, says physician and VJHPS president Dr. Kira McClellan.
We know from experience that we are all better together, McClellan says. “When everyone shows up for work, is kind and supportive of one another and does their best despite the challenging circumstances, everyone’s job is a little easier and patients receive better care.”
VJHPS, which includes physicians, dentists, midwives and nurse practitioners with hospital privileges, is funded by Doctors of BC Specialist Services Committee. The role of the Society is to carry out facility engagement activities and engage with Interior Health to improve patient care, collaboration with administration and physician well-being.
“Whether they are the guiding light for our sickest patients or those that keep Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH) running smoothly, as physicians, we are grateful to be part of this engaged and dedicated team. A delicious breakfast burrito is a small gesture to show our appreciation.”
Burritos for this event are being provided by Street Eats food truck. In addition to supporting VJH employees, the burritos will be comprised of free-range eggs and produce sourced from local farmers.
