The Great VJH GeoCache Hunt
The Hunt is now over!
Our VJH physicians have created this amazing, fun, and rewarding adventure and you are invited to join in. Yes, every staff member from any department at VJH plus any physician, midwife, nurse practitioner or dentist with privileges is eligible to participate in…The Great VJH GeoCache Hunt!
So…what’s geocaching?
Geocaching is a real-world adventure that’s happening right now. It will take you to all kinds of places, both near and maybe a bit farther out of town. The goal is to locate a geocache hidden in the area by using GPS coordinates or written clues and signing the logbook tucked inside of it. For each cache you find, you are entered into a draw for a grand prize. Take a photo of yourself finding a cache, send it to us, and be entered into a draw for a weekly prize. The more caches you find, the more chances you have of winning. Now isn’t that cool?
So…what’s the catch, other than a prize?
Our physicians are all about making people feel better. Not only do they care about their patients, they care about the people they work with. The Great VJH GeoCache Hunt was designed to get you out and moving which is exercise, both for your body and mind. We all know this helps improve work/life balance, reduces stress and burnout, and it makes you feel better. The physicians from the VJH Physician Society and Medical Staff Association have created individual caches and hidden them personally…all over the place. Each hidden location was designed with you in mind, in order to make the adventure of finding it fun and entertaining. If you like, you can get your family involved too (kids love looking for hidden treasure) or make it a solitary Zen experience – it doesn’t matter. Just get out and start hunting –there are prizes to be won!
Here’s how it works:

The Great VJH GeoCache Hunt – Instruction Sheet – click here (updated Oct 5).The Hunt is now over. Winners will be contacted shortly. - To start The Hunt, just choose a geocache you want to find, get out your smart phone or GPS or decipher the clues, and navigate to its location. Caches may be easy or difficult to find; however, they are all marked with an official VJH Geocache label like this:
- After finding a cache, do a happy dance (actually dancing is optional) and open up the container. Enter your last name, department, and date on the paper log slip found inside.
- Replace the paper log strip, close the container and hide it back where you found it. Don’t change the location to be fair to others looking for it.
- Take a selfie when you find one and send it to us. It’s a good safety precaution to ensure your entry in case the cache is accidently whisked away by an animal or gets destroyed. Plus you’ll be entered into a draw for a weekly prize! Email photos to: administrative@vernonphysiciansociety.ca
- Week 1 winner = Chelsea Bateman from Lab Services
- Week 2 winner = Alanna Simms from Physiotherapy
- Week 3 winner = Amanda Clarke from Education Dept
- Week 4 winner – Sierra Blake from Transcription
- Grand Prize winner = Pattie Mallet from Speech Language Pathology
We’ll make sure caches stay where they are supposed to and fix any problems. You can alert us to any problems by emailing: administrative@vernonphysiciansociety.ca
